Introducing the Magnificent Seven
The Magnificent Seven is a dispositional framework developed by Bevan Holloway, Guy Claxton, and Becky Carlzon. It is designed to help learners get better at imagining or collaborating, etc, in any subject, and get better at spotting opportunities to engage certain dispositions.
Curious learners have minds full of questions, enjoy exploring new things, and relish being amazed. They may question things that are "taken for granted."
Persistent learners stay intelligently engaged when things get hard. They're willing to risk, put in practice time, and aren't afraid of difficulty or complexity.
Imaginative learners are inventive risk-takers who see associations others miss. They make good use of metaphors and enjoy day-dreaming about possibilities.
Attentive learners can prioritise and concentrate well. They're observant, follow interests, and have strategies that help them focus without getting hijacked by distractions.
Thinking learners like to "hook things up" and think things through carefully. They're committed to understanding deeply and testing ideas, even when challenging.
Collaborative learners can take on varying group roles, build on others' contributions, and communicate clearly. They understand others and use feedback effectively.
Caring learners have an ethic of excellence. They have a nose for quality, work on improving products, and know the importance of reviewing and revising.
Each disposition can be expressed through thinking (Head), emotion (Heart), and action (Hand), creating rich learning experiences across all subjects. The Navigator helps students access these different 'expressions', while Reflections helps them recognise and celebrate when they've used these dispositions.
